Song Details

Loved is a song about love and loss. It was written in isolation in April 2020, just as the pandemic was taking hold and the music industry was falling apart.

I wrote this during the first month of the first lockdown. I, like everyone else, was scared and broken. All the unresolved feelings of the past were bubbling up and competing with new, pandemic fears. I thought of my mother. I needed my mother. My mom passed away when I was 19. I wrote this as a letter to her, at a moment when I needed her. I wanted to let her know I missed her and that I was sad, but I'll be ok in the end.

There are two sides to death; there is the loss, and there is the love. On one side, losing a loved one can be gutting, tragic and raw. On the other side, we can still appreciate the love and the feeling of being loved, even after that person is gone.

This song hopes to communicate the duality of that pain. As much as there is a tragedy in loss, there is also joy in loving and being loved.

Bio

Lizzy Clarke is a Toronto-based singer/songwriter. Her mobile youth was always full of music. She moved all over the world, from Ottawa to Egypt. She picked up new friends and new songs in each city she lived in. After getting her BA in jazz performance from Humber College, Lizzy dove headfirst into the Toronto music scene. She sang as often and in as many styles as she could. The two projects that stole her heart were the Intentions, for which she was the band manager and lead singer, and the vocal trio the Spandettes, who found much success in Japan!

The past few years have been about self-development and exploration. She released a series of solo singles between 2017-2019 including the songs “Love is Chaos” and “Headlines”, that drew attention from local and international fans. With the onset of the pandemic, Lizzy continued to write and collaborate remotely with talented artists like Denim Blu Vanelle, and Kristen Antunes.

In 2021, she released two songs with the amazing Denim Blu, on his debut album Blue. She will be releasing her new single “Loved” to all streaming platforms on February 24, 2022!

Lizzy is a leading figure in the Toronto music community. She continues to pursue a deeper connection to the music culture in the city by supporting fellow artists with her work as a Singing and Performance Coach (www.lizzyclarkesinginglessons.ca). She mentors young singers and performers as they begin their careers, and she hopes to eventually transition this experience into a production and artist development venture.
